Acupressure for Arthritis  

Depending on the location of your pain, press one or more of the points indicated below (which isn't necessarily where it hurts) following the general acupressure technique. Revisit the points, allowing at least 20 minutes for the total treatment.

For pain and inflammation in the hand, wrist, and shoulder, and for muscle tension: Press LI4. This point is in the web between the thumb and index finger on the back of each hand. See illustration A.)

Caution: Never use this point during pregnancy, because it may induce labor.

To strengthen the body, benefit the joints, and relieve the fatigue and stress of chronic pain: Press ST36. This point is four finger widths below the kneecap, outside the shinbone. (See illustration B).
For relief of foot pain and the stress of chronic arthritic pain in other parts of the body: Press LR3. This point is on the top of the foot in the valley between the first and second toes, where the bones merge. (See illustration C.)
